The challenge
Decades of motions, judgments, complaints, briefs, and supporting materials held the firm’s accumulated experience: arguments tested in court, strategies refined across matters, and work that could inform the next case.
Accessing it was still largely manual. Keyword searches through Clio and the firm’s existing setup left paralegals and associates to open files, review irrelevant results, and work out which matters actually helped. Even a straightforward case could mean hours of research.

Finding a useful precedent could depend on remembering an old matter or knowing which senior partner to ask.
Broad legal AI tools did not fully address the firm’s mix of specialties, proprietary knowledge, and day-to-day workflows.
Senior partners often knew which approaches had worked before, but recalling the details could still mean revisiting old files. Associates handling their first cases faced a greater challenge: accessing that experience without knowing which matter to look for or which partner to ask.
Legal work spans dozens of practice areas and many more specialties. A tool designed around personal injury litigation may offer little help with a corporate merger or real estate transaction. The firm needed a system shaped around its own practices.
Our approach
Solaeris met with the people closest to the work, from senior partners to entry-level paralegals and associates.
Understanding how experienced attorneys develop strategy and how research teams locate supporting material shaped two connected workflows: retrieving knowledge from the firm’s case history, and working with selected documents to extract information and prepare new work product.
How prior matters inform arguments and case strategy.
How relevant information is located, reviewed, and put to work.
Research / Ask the firm’s experience
Solaeris built a custom AI-powered legal intelligence framework that lets legal professionals query the firm’s matter and case history in natural language.
Describe the issue, procedural context, and kind of prior work needed. The response returns relevant matches with citations, so the briefs and orders behind an answer remain available for inspection.
One question, several layers of meaning
“Find prior California employment cases in which we opposed a motion to compel arbitration based on procedural unconscionability. Prioritize filed briefs where the court denied the motion, summarize the successful arguments, and cite the brief and order.”

Associates gain a more direct route into the firm’s accumulated experience. Senior partners can revisit prior work without manually retracing an old case.
Drafting / Build on the research
The same query becomes a starting point for preparing an opposition brief. Retrieved arguments and prior work carry into the draft, with links back to the supporting material.
Attorneys review the sources, assess their relevance, and refine the arguments for the current matter. The demonstration shows reused passages, authorities to re-verify, and facts that need confirmation.

File Vault / From files to findings
The File Vault supports focused document analysis and drafting. Legal professionals can upload hundreds of documents or select files already stored in the firm’s repository.
Query the collection, organize extracted fields into a table, and use selected material to support document preparation. Each output references specific source files, giving reviewers a concrete basis for checking the work.

Grounding responses and drafts in selected documents reduces hallucination risk and helps teams carry details accurately into new work. Legal professionals remain responsible for reviewing the output.
The impact
Hours returned to legal work
Collective savings across the firm
The firm has saved hundreds of hours in research and document review, alongside hundreds more in document preparation. Across the firm, the collective impact amounts to thousands of hours saved, with savings continuing to accumulate.
Paralegals and associates have more room to take on additional matters, more complex work, and substantive case preparation.
Less time spent searching and assembling documents helps lower client costs and improve the firm’s margins.
The firm’s knowledge is easier to reach through everyday questions, beyond any one person’s memory or availability.
An enduring resource
By building around the firm’s own documents and workflows, Solaeris helped turn a historical archive into a working resource for the next generation of cases.
